VOLUNTEER

Become a Village Aid volunteer and together, with communities in rural West Africa, we can enable people to forge bright futures, not only for themselves, but for future generations too!

Volunteering with Village Aid is a great way to learn new skills, experience working in an office, gain an insight into international development projects and Village Aid’s community-led approach to development, and be part of a small but very passionate team. We welcome people with a broad range of skills, experience and availability, so whether you can give a few hours each week, a day a month or much more, we have the perfect opportunity for you.

Here are the opportunities we have available at the moment:

Volunteer Collection Tin Coordinator

In the role of Collection Tin Coordinator you will be contacting and creating relationships with businesses in the local community, such as supermarkets, shops, garden centres, cafes and businesses and asking to place collection tins on their premises. Additionally, you will collect these tins, replacing them with new ones in October and March, and help to count the contents at the Village Aid office. You will also need to keep accurate records of the totals raised from each tin, and keep the Regional Fundraising Coordinator up to date with your progress.

This is a very flexible role which can fit around your availability; however the suggested amount of time is two hours every other week. This is an ideal role for someone who has excellent communication skills is friendly and approachable, and who is comfortable using their own initiative, as well as working with others. Village Aid will be able to reimburse you for reasonable and pre-agreed travel expenses and in some cases additional expenses.

Volunteer Fundraising Research Assistant

Help is required to research fundraising opportunities in the area surrounding Bakewell. This role will involve mapping of different community groups and detailing their contact information, and previously existing relationship with Village Aid, if any. This will also involve being aware of existing and new potential funding opportunities within the local area.

This is a fairly flexible role which can fit around your availability; however the suggested amount of time would be a half-day each week between Monday and Thursday. There are two volunteer positions available. Village Aid will be able to reimburse you for reasonable and pre-agreed travel expenses and in some cases additional expenses.

Volunteer Bucket Collectors

Help with bucket collecting in local places within Bakewell and the surrounding area. Helping in turn to raise awareness and funds for Village Aid’s vital work! No experience is necessary although an outgoing personality will help in this role.

This is a flexible role which can fit around your availability and will be more active at certain times of the year, such as during the Christmas season. The suggested time commitment would be 2 to 4 hours a week when needed. There are multiple positions available. Village Aid will be able to reimburse you for reasonable and pre-agreed travel expenses and in some cases additional expenses.

Volunteer Speakers

As a Village Aid Community Speaker you’ll be giving your time to represent the charity in your local community; to be our voice, and to assist with fundraising and awareness raising activities near you.

This is a flexible role, and will largely involve presenting at evenings and weekends, or as and when a group requires a talk. The role will involve: promoting the work of Village Aid by organising and giving talks and presentations and proactively approaching local companies, groups and organisations in order to organise speaking opportunities.

Some travelling may be required but the role will be predominantly based in the local community. The suggested time commitment would be 2 to 3 hours per week when required. Village Aid will be able to reimburse you for reasonable and pre-agreed travel expenses and in some cases additional expenses.

Events and Campaigns Volunteers

As an events and campaigns volunteer, you will have quite a bit of flexibility with hours and frequency. You can help us on a regular or occasional basis, even just once a year.

This role may vary depending on needs, but is likely to include: participating in events throughout the year with some involvement in preparations on the day, meeting and greeting, taking registrations, promoting events, helping members of staff and other volunteers set up stalls, gazebos and other promotional equipment, talking to members of the public enthusiastically about Village Aid to raise awareness about the work we do, handing out leaflets/giving information if required, redirecting any questions you are unable to answer to an appropriate member of staff and overseeing or holding a collection bucket to encourage donations. Village Aid will be able to reimburse you for reasonable and pre-agreed travel expenses and in some cases additional expenses.

Volunteer Fundraising Research Assistant- grants, trusts and foundations

This role will give you the chance to gain a working knowledge of grant fundraising for a small charity and allow you to improve/develop a variety of skills. The role will include: undertaking online research to identify the most appropriate grant funders for Village Aid to approach for financial support, talking/writing to grant funders to generate donations to support the work of Village Aid, cross-referencing a list of potential grant funders with those in our database in order to determine who to apply to for funding, and updating the database to reflect any communications and applications.

This is a fairly flexible role which can fit around your availability; however the suggested amount of time would be a half-day each week between Monday and Thursday. There are two volunteer positions available. Village Aid will be able to reimburse you for reasonable and pre-agreed travel expenses and in some cases additional expenses.
