Success at Peace in the Park

Peace in the ParkOn 6th June 2009, Village Aid staff and about 20 volunteers braved the miserable weather and made their way down to Peace in the Park. This annual music festival held in Sheffield is about bringing the community together, sharing music and art and having a good time!

Each year, Peace in the Park choose one local and one international best cause to support. All donations collected on the day are split between the two charities. Village Aid was chosen as the best international cause for 2009 and we were delighted! It provided us not only with the opportunity to raise vital funds to support our projects in West Africa, but it was a great platform to promote Village Aid and raise awareness about what we do.

We were gutted when we heard the weather was going to be bad. Never in the history of Peace in the Park has it ever rained! Luckily for us, we were equipped with a team of enthusiastic, energetic and committed volunteers who didn't care about the rain or the cold. They were determined to do the best job they could... and they did!!!

Our volunteers helped to raise roughly £2000 which was split between us and the local nominated charity, NOMAD. Our stall was fun and interesting, we were selling home made fair trade cakes, we had a raffle with some amazing prizes up for grabs, African art was on sale and we also had face painting.

By the time we left Peace in the Park, everyone had heard of Village Aid which was great!

Considering we are one of the only international development charities so close to Sheffield, we thought it was time they heard about what Village Aid are doing in West Africa.

The mighty bucket shakersA huge thank you to all those involved, we couldn't have done it without our lovely volunteers!!!
