Educational outreach

Village Aid works with local schools and universities in the UK to raise awareness among young people of the positive developments that are happening in Africa and the rich culture and art of the people and the similarities and differences in the lives of people here and in Africa.

UK Overview

In the UK, our expanding education department is making sure that young people in Derbyshire are learning about the communities we work with in West Africa.

With the appointment of Helen Hunter, our Drama Education Co-ordinator, work has been taking place all over Derbyshire as part of our World Class Act programme with schools participating in drama workshops, extra-curricular activities, public performances, curriculum based Global Citizenship lessons and our 2007 summer school, ‘Over the Hills … and Far away’.

Alongside this, we are still visiting schools to give talks and assemblies, share our African artefacts, and work with groups of committed students on campaigning. We continue to provide teachers with our Primary Global Citizenship pack, Children Talking? and offer them support in using it.

And not forgetting of course, all of our fund-raising initiatives in which schools can get involved!
