What we do

Village Aid works with partner organisations based in West Africa on a number of programmes

Village Aid strongly believes that African people are best placed to deal with the problems in Africa. We help them by providing resources and capital so they can develop solutions. Village Aid works closely in partnership with locally based grassroots organisations that are at the heart of the communities which they support. We help to train these organisations in the valuable skills they need to become sustainable and independent in their own right, such as fundraising, management and financial administration. We hope that our partners can go on to become well established organisations, delivering quality programmes within their communities, enabling the most marginalised and vulnerable to break free from poverty.

 Education and Learning

Our education programmes have a strong focus on Reflect literacy. This is a participatory method of learning that teaches people what is relevant to them and their situation

We also provide scholarships and learning materials to those who cannot afford it themselves, such as orphans, single mothers and vulnerable youth

 Securing Livelihoods

We provide business management, record keeping and skills training to the unemployed and those who didn't attend school

We help them develop their enterprises through providing loans and ongoing support

We help them set up sustainable businesses that will provide them with an income to feed their families and send their children to school

Projects are focused in areas where there are high unemployment rates

Projects are based around agriculture and other trades, including tie dye and welding

Advocacy and Justice

We make people aware of their rights, familiarising them with the laws that protect them

We provide legal support to communities, enabling them to gain legal advice and support regarding issues affecting them

We carry out advocacy campaigns that tackle issues such as gender violence and HIV/AIDS prevention

UK Programme

We work in schools, creating awareness amongst children about global issues

We use drama, stories and participatory learning to highlight different cultures, lifestyles and traditions in Africa
